We introduce ourselves

The centuries-old experience of four generations in the Bruckner Family Workshop

Our ancestors are from today's Germany, They settled in Hungary from the Rhine region, close to Lake Balaton (Around Nagyvázsony) the 1700 -years. Maria Theresia on epidemics, war, stb. settled German residents in parts of the country that were depopulated due to. Our ancestors were not farmers, but they were craftsmen, and they already worked as manor carpenters in Hungary.

1825-from, during the reform era, huge constructions started in Balatonfüred, they built a sophisticated spa complex in which many buildings were made of wood. This required skilled craftsmen living in the area. This is how the ancestors of the Bruckners came to Balatonfüred.

Three Brothers - Szabolcs Bruckner, Barna and Balázs - together we restore the elderly in a family business, often 100 lived a year, wooden yachts.

The male members of our family 4 since generation, for more than a century, they earn their living with this craft.

The shipyard in Füred was the cradle of Hungarian shipbuilding. (1879-in Richard Young, founded by an English shipbuilder.) The male members of our family are 1920-they learned the trade here from the years, and passed on from generation to generation.

1. Generation

To our great-grandfather János Bruckner he already had his own carpentry workshop here in Balatonarác, next to the Assumption Catholic Church. The 1920-From the 1990s onwards, he often visited the shipyard in Balatonfüred, undertaking part-time work, when building a sailboat.

2. Generation

Our grandfather József, with his younger brother János (With Uncle Jani) they learned the shipbuilding trade at the factory.

A 20-as, 30-as, 40-and years represented the golden age of Hungarian wooden shipbuilding. The one that is still afloat was built at that time, beautiful, wooden sailboats. This fertile era in the shipyard in Balatonfüred, our great-grandfather was an active participant, and with our grandfather's younger brother, With Uncle Jani. For highly skilled professionals, they were considered a serious authority. Jenő Benacsek, the director of the factory, for larger orders, he asked for their opinion in the preparation of the quotation.

With our grandfather's younger brother common, they designed their own workshop, several wagons of timber were ordered from Transylvania, but war intervened. Our grandfather fell during the bombing of Fehérvár, Uncle Jani stayed in the shipyard as a shipbuilder after five years as a Russian prisoner of war, then as a group leader.(photo: Uncle Jani)

3. Generation:

József Bruckner : Our father grew up as a war orphan with his brother. 1960-years after learning the carpentry trade, Under the direction of Uncle Jani turned at every post. Shipbuilding, production, renovation, demolition, construction, he could observe every small detail of the design, he could find it from the works of the old masters.

During his years at the factory For export to Western Europe (Belgian, German English) the wooden Balaton 20s were made, Scandinavians, but Dragons were made, bikers.

On the water is a Balaton 20 az Emír, built in the 1960s in the Balatonfüred Shipyard, which our workshop restored.

Towards the end of the 1970s, wooden shipbuilding in the factory was replaced by the production of plastic sailboats. After that he decided, how it changed, and here in Balatonfüred there is a sports association (MAFC) maintained wooden ships he owned, and next to him in a half-stand, as a small-scale entrepreneur, he undertook minor and major repairs in the ports.

Our father used the knowledge he acquired in the construction of plastic sailboats in the construction of Salambo.

It is one of our most memorable works in this genre: István Kopár, he is now a four-time earth-circumcising record holder, Strengthening and internal installation of the Balaton 31 sailboat, we completed the installation, with which there were no problems during its journey around the Earth.

Early 1980s a methuselah swertkiller sailing ship, entrusted with the reconstruction of the Planet.

Then he decided, to expand the already existing carpentry workshop. He set the Planet next to the small workshop and built a foil tent above it, this is where the work was initially carried out. and in parallel with the renovation, he built the large, a final workshop suitable for accommodating deep draft sailboats.

The main workshop, which was completed in the mid-1980s, approx. 16 meters long, 8 meters wide, 4 meters high, in addition, there is a machine shop, lumber yard.

Today, with the spread of modern materials, traditional technology is increasingly being pushed into the background.

These procedures are more complicated and time-consuming, and in most cases, in an average ship renovation, the specialists strive to, with as little manual work as possible, carry out the renovation as soon as possible.

To this day, we still use traditional shipbuilding and restoration techniques, that it is really demanding, achieve a quality result.

It developed over the years in the Bruckner workshop, whose strength is what, who is weaker in what, we complement each other.

There is no boss, but our father, József's words carry a lot of weight even today (He mainly participates in the work only with his advice).

It is also a condition for precise work, to make one feel like one's own, what he does. From the workshop, they were repaired for the most part on lakes in Western Europe, renovated ships.

Our family owns countless cruisers (15-ancestor, 22-es, 30-as, 40-es, 50-es), to whom, dragon, Scandinavian, Balaton 20, Europe is 30, motor boat, find the thing, flying Dutchman turned around, but we have already dealt with the Sondernklasse who understood the age of Methuselah, and also with R-yacht.

What about these old wooden boats we do not rebuild, but we restore it!

That means, that it is so old, we use traditional formal elements and construction solutions, which with the age of the given ship, they are in line with your style.

Our goal, to preserve as much of the traditional construction technologies as possible, because in this way the value of a ship will be as high as possible.

You can also rebuild a ship by saving labor time, simpler, with modern solutions, but what about the combination of old technology and new materials - within the framework of reasonableness -, and we strive to use hand tools.

These ships are divided into classes, fairly strict class regulations must be followed, in materials, in sizes, in weight, in sailing fever, thus, restoration is a very complex process. In addition to technology and regulations, we also pay attention to that, to preserve the approach and the value of that work, which our predecessors represented in Hungarian wooden shipbuilding since the beginning of the last century.
